Libby
|
Libby
Stephens is from the Deep South, now living in Brooklyn. Before finding
the African and Haitian dance classes at Djoniba, shed never studied
dance but indulged in dance only as a natural, personal release. As a
deskbound editor/writer, she developed a deeper need for music to take
her out of her mind and put her into her body. Upon hearing the raw
Haitian drums, she was drawn to learn the traditional movements that
accompany the rhythmsand the meanings behind them. While yoga has
taught her to be in the moment, Haitian culture reminds her
to love the moment. She also participates in dance and
performance art pieces with the Madagascar Institute, an art collective
that stages drive-by artings |
